Setting up the barcode scanning functionality

This document outlines the instructions for setting up the barcode scanning functionality, allowing your scanner to recognize/understand the character string that is generated from your scanner when scanning barcoded labels during reception and picking.

Tables/Files To do
Work with application identifiers This file is pre-loaded with common, widely used industry related identifiers. The possibility also exists to add your own. You define the ID, description, number of characters in the string, whether it is a fixed length or not, and the referencing field in the system. If the identifier is not a fixed length, you can enter the separator that is to be used to differentiate the segments.
Work with barcodes For each applicable barcode, select the Identifiers option and link the applicable Application identifiers (AI’s) that are to be used for the barcode. When you connect the application identifier to the barcode, the following field values defined for the application identifier are retrieved, but can be changed.

    Length
Enter/displays the numeric value denoting the length of the application identifier, i.e. how many characters make up the identifier.
    Fixed
Set this field to YES if the length of the application identifier is a fixed length, i.e. there is a fixed number of characters for the contents of this identifier.
    Separator
This field is only applicable if the length of the application identifier is not a fixed length. When manually adding an identifier that is not a fixed length, enter the character used to separate the content of this identifier from other identifiers.
    Reference field
This is the identity of the field that the application identifier is pointing to. When manually adding an identifier, enter the panel field reference to which it applies on the scan panels.

A barcode must be set as a default barcode to be retrieved/used when barcoded labels are scanned. Highlight the applicable barcode and select the Set default option. This default barcode is retrieved to the first scanning panel when using the Work with batch receive and pick routine to perform the scan operation, since at this point no business partner has been selected. It can be changed there. It is also retrieved when using the Work with pickings routine to perform scan operations for pick scanning. When using the Work with receptions to perform scan operations for reception scanning, any barcode that has been set specifically for the supplier for the reception scanning operation will be retrieved. See Work with business partners (Supplier file) below.

Work with business partners (Supplier file) If you want to override the default barcode set in the Barcodes table, and assign a barcode to be retrieved/read specifically for applicable suppliers, navigate to the Supplier file panel and click the Barcodes function key. On the Barcodes by supplier panel, highlight the barcode and select the Activate option to activate the barcode for this supplier. When using the Work with receptions routine to scan barcoded labels for this supplier, this barcode will be retrieved/used. Repeat for each applicable supplier.
