Item file maintenance, Apply item classification definition (DIR99501)

Related topics

This panel is displayed if the Item classific entry parameter is activated in the item View controls window. This is where you apply the Item classification definition to create the item and load any automatically generated data (depending on what was set up).

You must first indicate the grouping structure, defining the following:

  • Item classification profile 1 code
  • Item classification profile 2 code

The system will retrieve the main group and group to which the profile 1 code belongs. It will also display the characteristics which are linked to the profile codes.

You can then manually define the item code or let the system create it, if you have defined a layout definition for the Item classification definition. You then enter/select the value for each listed characteristics (whether the value is mandatory or is to be validated depends on the settings on the header panel in the Work with characteristic file). If default values were defined they will be loaded for the applicable characteristics. If the characteristic is defined as changeable (i.e. Changeable flag is set to YES on Header level in the Work with characteristics file) you can change the value. Lastly you click Apply to apply the definition (i.e. generate the item).

The item will be created and you will access the Item basic data panel as in the standard item creation. From that point the item creation continues as standard.

All applicable data attached to the item classification definition (as well as that which was set up to be automatically generated) will be loaded into the following panels:

  • Basic data: These panels will be loaded with the values for the table related item keys that are part of the grouping structure for the applied Item classification definition, any applicable data defined in a layout definition, as well as any field data that was overridden via the Item field override functionality for generated items via Item Classification.
  • Units and System units: These panels will be loaded with unit data and any calculated values from unit formulas if such were defined for the characteristic.
  • Characteristics: This panel will be loaded with the characteristics and values generated for the item. You can maintain the value for any characteristic if the Changeable flag is set to YES on Header level in the Work with characteristics file for the applicable characteristic.
  • Foreign Description: The item foreign descriptions generated automatically from the layout definition in the item classification definition cannot be maintained in this panel. The applicable description for this item can only be generated/refreshed via the Rebuilding item descriptions routine.
  • Extended description: The item extended descriptions generated automatically from the layout definition in the item classification definition cannot be maintained in this panel. The applicable description for this item can only be generated/refreshed via the Rebuilding item descriptions routine.
  • Item search fields: This panel will be loaded with automatically generated search field data for the Item characteristic and Characteristic value if the Build flag was set to YES for types 89 (Item characteristic) and 90 (Characteristic value) in the Item search field control table.

When the end-user searches for items via Characteristic search mode, the user will be able to narrow down the search using search criteria for the following:

  • Main group
  • Group
  • Item classification profile 1 code
  • Item classification profile 2 code
  • Characteristic
  • Values for any selected characteristic

Main group
The name of this field depends on what has been set up in the DIS control keys file for the Item related key that was chosen to represent the Main group entity of the grouping structure (defined in the DIS control file). The system retrieves the main group to which the group belongs.
Group
The name of this field depends on what has been set up in the DIS control keys file for the Item related key that was chosen to represent the Group entity of the grouping structure (defined in the DIS control file). The system retrieves the group to which the Item classification profile 1 belongs.
Item classification profile 1
The name of this field depends on what has been set up in the DIS control keys file for the Item related key that was chosen to represent the Item classification profile 1 entity of the grouping structure (defined in the DIS control file). Enter the profile 1 code of the Item classification definition you want to apply to create the item. After pressing enter, the Group and subsequently Main group to which it belongs will be retrieved. The characteristics activated for the Item classification profile 1 will also be displayed on the bottom part of the panel. If any default value has been defined for the characteristic it will also be displayed.
Item classification profile 2
The name of this field depends on what has been set up in the DIS control keys file for the Item related key that was chosen to represent the Item classification profile 2 entity of the grouping structure (defined in the DIS control file). Enter the profile 2 code of the Item classification definition you want to apply to create the item. After pressing enter, the characteristics activated for the profile 2 code will be displayed on the bottom part of the panel. If any default value has been defined for the characteristic, it will also be displayed.
