This program is used to classify different assets. The type is the main category, and a type may have several groups as subsets. If you want to use groups, you must first define a default or main asset type, without a group. Some of the values for an asset type and group are defaulted when entering a new asset in the Asset file, unless overridden by the defaults of an asset file maintenance option. The asset type and group also control which depreciation types are valid, but external depreciation types are controlled primarily by the acquisition type.

Work with asset types and groups (AACD12104)
This program is used to classify different assets. The type is the main category, and a type may have several groups as subsets. If you want to use groups, you must first define a default or main asset type, without a group. Some of the values for an asset type and group are defaulted when entering a new asset in the Asset file, unless overridden by the defaults of an asset file maintenance option. On this panel you define a new asset type and group combination or maintain an existing one.
Function keys
- Asset type
- Asset group
- Description
- Enter a description for the asset type or the asset type and group combination.
- Asset number series
- Enter the number series from Work with asset number series that should be used when numbering assets of this type, or type and group.
- Ins policy check
- Indicate if the system should give a warning if an insurance policy is not entered in the Asset file for assets of this type and group.
- Technical form
- If assets of this type and group are described via a specific technical form, you enter the code for it here. Completion of the form will then be part of the entry of assets in the Asset file. Technical forms are defined in Work with technical forms.
- Calc constant 1-5
- The constants you enter here can be used in calculations in the depreciations. They are, however, not used in the preloaded calculations.
- Economic useful life
- If depreciation based on economic life is used for assets of this type and group, then you can enter the number of years over which the depreciation should be distributed. The value will be proposed when entering new assets of this type/group in the Asset file. The preloaded depreciation rule for straight line depreciation uses economic useful life in the calculation.
- Legal useful life
- The legal useful life, if entered, must not be shorter than the economic useful life. Legal life is not used for any preloaded calculation rules. It is only for your information.
- Techn useful life
- The technical useful life, if entered, must not be shorter than the economic useful life. Technical life is used as a base when creating costing depreciations in combination with the preloaded rule COST.
- Index
- If you indicate an index, it will be used as default for the replacement value index in the Asset file for assets of this type and group.
- Depreciable for
- Set to YES for all depreciation types that should be used when depreciating assets of this type and group. Set to NO for the ones that are not used. Note: An external depreciation will be overridden by the definitions for the acquisition type.
If you change the setup for an existing type, then the following rules apply for the assets of this type and group:
- If depreciations have not started, then the Asset file is updated directly with the changes from the table, i.e. an activated type is added to the schedule, and an inactivated type is removed.
- If depreciations have started, then only activation of new types will have impact on existing assets. Inactivation of a type will not end a depreciation that has started.
