Working with internal replenishment suggestions (DC1 Stock Control)

This functionality is used to automatically create replenishment suggestions for your branch warehouses. The available quantity for each item and warehouse will be verified and compared to the amount specified as the re-order point quantity (or level). If it is less, a transfer, equalling the re-order point quantity, is suggested from the main warehouse to the branch warehouse. Some of the benefits of utilizing the Internal Replenishment Suggestion (IRS) functionality include:

  • The internal transfers of goods can more optimally be planned. By allowing the system to create the suggestions – instead of doing it manually; you will also be saving time.
  • It allows you to distribute your items when a shortage arises at the delivering warehouse, according to needs via the fair share handling.
  • You are able to reduce your stocking levels by carrying some of the inventory on a central basis and distributing it when needed.
  • You are able to keep a high service level towards the customers. The IRS function will tell you when and how much to transfer on a need-to-know basis.

The system always suggests that the item should be delivered from the main warehouse (defined in DIS control file) to the branch warehouse.

Note: The extended version of IRS, which allows you to specify any type of warehouse structure (who is supplying who) and analyse the requirements for all warehouse levels, is available when DC1 Inventory Control is installed. See About working with internal replenishment suggestions (DC1 Inventory Control).

Maintain IRS
Depending on your specific business needs you can re-run the IRS as many times as you like, but typically, you would run it on a periodical basis, e.g. weekly. After creation, an IRS can be maintained in the following ways:

  • You can change the line, e.g., add or delete lines. You can also change line information, e.g., quantities.
  • You can transfer the IRS, in part or in full, to another suggestion. The supplying warehouse can, for example, be changed to one that currently has an overstock of a certain item.
  • The IRS can be transferred into a purchase suggestion. The supplying warehouse will, in this case, be removed as the supplying source and replaced by an external supplier.

The IRS will be used when the actual Internal Replenishment Orders (IRO) are created. See Create an internal replenishment order in a batch run (DC1 Stock Control).
