With the Data Conversion Tool you convert data from any iSeries physical file to any other iSeries physical files. The tool can, for example, be used to convert data from DC1 6.00 to DC1 7.0.
You have to define at least one specification for each file you want to convert to, but a conversion set, could contain many conversion specifications.
If there are many files to convert, you could proceed as follows: Define the files in conversion specifications in this program. You can collect all the specifications in the same conversion set. In this program you can also run a test conversion. When all files are defined, normally the data conversion is run in the Work with conversion sets program.
This panel displays the conversion specifications and corresponding descriptions that have been set up in your system. In every specification a source file and a target file is defined, together with other information required to convert data in one file to another. You can create, edit, copy, delete, display, print, rename, run, promote, preload or run a test on specifications.

Work with specifications (CVTD300N)
This is the starting panel for preloading conversion specifications. When you preload, the file formats in the source file and target file are preloaded to make a connection between the fields and to find their from-to positions.
If the Preload at execution field on the Edit specification (CVTD3021) panel is set to YES, the file format is always preloaded before conversion.
- Conversion set
- Displays the conversion set to which the specifications you are preloading belong.
- Reset default field functions
- Indicate if you want to reset the default field functions. Default field functions are defined on the Work with default field functions (CVTD2001) panel. Note: This option is useful when a large number of specifications have already been created and a new default field function has been added for the displayed conversion set. Resetting default field functions does not alter manually maintained field specifications on the Maintain field specifications (CVTD4041) panel.
- Reset field to field connections
- Indicate if you want to reset the field to field connections. If you set this field to YES, the from-to positions for the existing field specifications are reset.
