Rebuild item descriptions, Layout selection (DMR16401)

Related topics

This program allows you to refresh/rebuild a layout definition generated for any existing item for any of the following layout codes:

  • 01 (Item description)
  • 02 (Extended item description)
  • 03 (Internal item description)
  • 04 (Item foreign description)

This can be done at any time, if needed, should any of the descriptions used within the layout have changed.

As a safeguard, you have the option to simulate the rebuild and test the result before actually applying the changes. All items containing the description generated from the layout definition, for the grouping structure you select will be displayed. You will then have the possibility to view any messages for truncated data and access the layout definition, allowing you to change, test and preview the results.

Options

Rebuild Select this option to rebuild the applicable item description.
Simulation results If you chose to run the rebuild in simulation mode, select this option to view the simulation results.

Function keys

Clear all simulation data If you chose to run the rebuild in simulation mode, clear all simulation data.

Selection fields

Layout
This column lists the layout codes applicable for the rebuild/simulation process.
Description
This column lists the description of the layout code.
Language
This field is defaulted to system language for Item description and Internal item description. It can, however, be maintained for the Extended item description and Item foreign description, where the following applies:

If left blank:

  • During simulation mode: Simulation will be applied upon all applicable items in each language set up in the system.
  • During non-simulation mode: Applicable layout definition will be re-applied upon all applicable items in each language set up in the system.

If entered:

  • During simulation mode: Simulation will be applied upon all applicable items but only for the specific entered language.
  • During non-simulation mode: Applicable layout definition will be re-applied upon all applicable items but only for that specific language.

Related topics

On this panel you make your selections for the rebuild process. You must make at least one selection. You can also choose to process the rebuild in simulation mode, allowing you to test before actually applying the results.

Function keys

Clear my simulation data If you previously simulated a rebuild, clear the simulated data.
Layout
Displays the selected layout code and description.
Language
Displays the language for the description. If blank for the Extended item description and Item foreign description, you will be able to view all items, holding all translated descriptions for your selection criteria. To only view items with a specific translated description, back out to the initial panel and enter the applicable language code.

Selection

At least one selection must be made, choosing from the item itself or any of the components in the grouping structure.

Item
Select the applicable item(s) for which you want to apply the rebuild.

Grouping structure

Main group
Select the applicable main group for which you want to apply the rebuild.
Group
Select the applicable group for which you want to apply the rebuild.
Item classification profile 1
The name of this field depends on what has been set up in the DIS control keys file for the Item related key that was chosen to represent the Item classification profile 1 entity of the grouping structure (defined in the DIS control file). Select the Item classification profile 1 code for which you want to apply the rebuild.
Item classification profile 2
The name of this field depends on what has been set up in the DIS control keys file for the Item related key that was chosen to represent the Item classification profile 2 entity of the grouping structure (defined in the DIS control file). Select the Item classification profile 2 code for which you want to apply the rebuild.

Processing rules

The following field allows you to choose how you want to run the rebuild (i.e. in simulation or live mode).

Simulation
The default is NO. Change to YES if you want to run the rebuild in simulation mode, thereby allowing you to test before actually applying the results. Click OK to process. Note: If you have previously run a simulation for any of the selection, you will receive a warning that simulation data exists (if you have not cleared all simulation data).

Options

Diagnosis If the Truncated / Error columns are set to YES for any of the items, select this option to view the reason.
Layout definition Select this option to change the layout definition for any of the items. This option also allows you to test the definition in simulation mode and preview the results before applying.

Selection fields

Layout
Displays the selected layout code and description.
Language
Displays the language for the description.
Created by
Displays the user that created the simulation.
Creation date
Displays the date the simulation was created.

Item
This column list all items attached to the grouping structure and for which the selected description (generated from the layout definition for the layout code) exists. You can change any layout definition for any of the items by selecting the Layout definition option. That option also allows you to test the definition in simulation mode and preview the results before applying.
Language
This column lists the language for the description in the layout definition. If the simulation is for the Extended item description or Item foreign description and it has been translated, this column will lists one record for each translated language.
Error
This column indicates if any error occurred during the translation of the layout definition. If set to YES, you can check the messages (first and any second level), informing you of the reason, by clicking the Diagnosis option. Note: Theoretically it should not be possible to enter erroneous layout definitions as there are enough controls that ensure that. However, there may be situations where the layout definitions have been loaded into the database directly or a mass update has been applied by using SQL. In such cases the simulation mode in this routine can aid in detecting inconsistencies introduced by the actions mentioned above. Some examples of errors that can be found within a layout definition are: Characteristic does not belong to grouping structure, characteristic does not exist, layout key code expected, etc.
Truncated
This column indicates if the description created from the layout definition for the layout code was truncated. If set to YES, you can check the messages (first and any second level), informing you of the reason, by clicking the Diagnosis option.
