A by-product signifies a product, material or waste that is produced when a certain item is manufactured. By-products may be recycled, sold as is, or used for other purposes.

By indicating negative consumption of these by-products the system will treat items as expected incoming goods, and not consumed goods. When reporting on a by-product a goods inward transaction is created instead of a goods outward transaction.
