Set up calibration rules for a tool

Related topics

Even though the calibration function is optional, you can, by using this function, better plan the tools that are to be used during the production of a manufacturing order.

Depending on the type of calibration identifier you select for the tool you will have to set up the calibration rules differently:

  • For calibration identifier 1 (hours), 2 (produced pieces) and 3 (number of operations), you complete the Calibration point field which indicates the point at which the tool should be calibrated.
  • For calibration identifier 4 (weekly calibration) and 5 (monthly calibration), you define the first calibration date in the Next calibr date field. The system will then automatically calculate the next calibration date according to the selected calibration identifier.
  • For calibration identifier 6 (defined calibration date), you must access the applicable tool information in change mode and click Calibration dates to select the applicable calibration dates for the tool.

See Calibration process for detailed information about the calibration process.

  1. Select the Work with tools/fixtures menu item.
  2. You access Work with tools and fixtures. Select the tool for which you want to define calibration rules and click Change.
  3. You access Tools and fixtures maintenance. Complete the following calibration-related fields:
  4. Calibrate
Set this field to YES if you want this tool to be part of the calibration function.
    Calibr identifier
Enter a value indicating the type of information the calibration counter should be based/updated on or for which date sequence the calibration should be made. Permitted values: 1 (hours), 2 (produced pieces), 3 (number of operations), 4 (weekly calibration), 5 (monthly calibration) and 6 (defined calibration dates).
    Calibration point
This field is only applicable if Calibr identifier is set to 1 (hours), 2 (produced pieces) or 3 (number of operations). Enter the point at which the tool should be calibrated.
Note: When you print a Calibration report to determine what tools should be calibrated, the system will only select the tools that have reached or exceeded this point. The calibration status for such tools will be updated to 1.
    Next calibr date
This field is only applicable if Calibr identifier is set to 4 (weekly calibration), 5 (monthly calibration) and 6 (defined calibration dates). Enter a date indicating when the first calibration should be performed. The system will then automatically calculate the next calibration date and update this field when you accept the results of the calibration.
Note: When you print a Calibration report to determine what tools need to be calibrated, the system will only select the tools that have reached the next calibration date. The calibration status for such tools will also be updated to 1.
    Planned calibr time
This field is optional and can be used to reduce the capacity when using fixed calibration dates. If desired, enter the normal planned calibration time for one tool.

Click OK when you have completed all relevant information.

  5. You access Tools and fixtures calibr maintenance. Click Add.
  6. On the detail panel you enter the value limits. Complete the following fields:
  7. Calibration text
Enter text of your choice to describe, e.g., what should be checked.
    Value from
Enter the lowest acceptable value for the calibration.
    Value to
Enter the highest acceptable value for the calibration.
    Norm value
Enter the normal value for the calibration. This is the value between the maximum and minimum.
    Alpha value
If desired, enter an alpha value. You can enter anything to more flexibly describe the acceptable limits. For example, if you just define a Norm value, you may want to indicate “+ – 25%” in this field.

Click OK to update the information and exit the program.

Note: If you set Calibr identifier to 6 (defined calibration date), you must re-access the applicable tool information in change mode and then click Calibration dates to select the applicable calibration dates.
