The following describes some basic system conventions that make it easier for you to work in the DC1 Analyser. However, for complete information on basic system behaviour and the windows operating system, refer to the operating system User’s Guide.
We strongly recommend that you familiarise yourself with the basic behaviour of your operating system before you begin working with DC1 Analyser. DC1 Analyser adheres to Microsoft Windows operating conventions for using windows, menus, menu commands, command buttons, icons and a mouse.
Operating hints
Note the following:
- When you perform an action in the system such as opening a window, the cursor may not immediately be shown as busy and you may need to wait a few seconds to ensure that the action is taking place. If you repeat your command, you will start two separate versions of the function.
- If you try to exit a window without saving your changes, the system will flag you to ask if you really want to exit the window without saving. Choose No to return to the window and save your changes. Choose Yes to exit without saving.
- To work with menu bar pop up function menus, you can use the following commands instead of the mouse click:
- To a view a pop up menu for a heading, press ctrl+alt+ the first letter of the menu heading (e.g.
for File). - To scroll through the selected function on the pop up menu, press to move up and to move down.
- To choose a function, press Enter when the function is selected.
Window menu
All windows in DC1 Analyser contain a Window heading in the command bar from which you can access and control certain parts of the system via a pull down menu.
The following actions can be performed:
Note: If a control is displayed in grey, it is disabled and cannot be performed in the window in which you are working.
Choose | Result |

Window/Settings | You can change the appearance of output data in all windows. See Output data settings below for more information about how to work with settings. |
Window/System information | You view the Selected company, Internal window name and iSeries server job. |
Window/All functions | You open the All functions window, where you can select the function you wish to access. |
Window/Object categories | You open the Object categories window. For further information on this function, refer to chapter Working with Objects. |
Window/Save size / position | You save any changes you have made to the size or position of the window for future DC1 Analyser sessions.
Note: For information on how to change the size and position of windows, refer to the operation system User’s Guide. |
Window/Reset size / position | You reset the window to the system default size and position. |
Window/Print… | You choose to print. See Printing the contents of a window below for more information. |
Window/E-mail Only available if you have configured your e-mail settings for your PC. |
You open the Image of …..window (corresponding to the window in which you are working) where you can enter the e-mail address of the recipient and any message and then send the information as an e-mail. Note: For information on how to configure your e-mail settings and work with e-mails, see chapter Configuring your DC1 Analyser Environment. |
Window/Close | You close the window in which you are currently working. |
Window/Close all… | The system prompts you to confirm that you wish to close all windows except the main window. Choose Yes to close all windows. Choose No to cancel the command and return to the original window. |
Output data settings
You can change appearance of output data (i.e. fonts and colours) in all windows. To change the colour and font, do as follows:
- Choose Windows/Settings.
- Fonts can be changed for the current view or all views and can be applied to header information and/or data. To select the font, click the Fonts icon. Select the desired font. Click OK.
- Colours can be changed for data in the Foreground and/or Background. To select colour, click the Colour icon. Select the desired colour. Click OK.
- Click Save in the Window settings view window.
Note: These settings will automatically be preserved for future DC1 Analyser sessions.
The appearance of output data is now altered in all windows.
Tip: To view an example of your output data settings, choose Window/System information. The Selected company and Internal window name are shown with the selected settings.
Keyboard Shortcuts
When working with text in tables, free text or entry fields, there are some shortcuts you can use.
The table below shows you some available shortcuts. Where it is indicated that you must press more than one key, the keys must be pressed together, beginning with the first key:

Printing the contents of a window
You can print the contents of any window in the DC1 Analyser environment. The system will capture the window as an image file and print out the image you view on the screen.
- Choose Window/Print….
- You view a Capture screen window. Make your choices accordingly:
- Capture type
- The default is Window, meaning the entire window will be captured. If you only want to capture a certain area of the window, check Marked area.
- Image type
- Select from the drop down list, the image type for this capture.
- Output
- The default is Printer. If you wish to store the image as a file, check File.
- If you chose to capture the entire window, a Printer selection window will appear. Select the printer and click OK.
- If you chose to capture a certain area of the window, you must mark the area. You will receive a message informing you that the area has been captured and asking if you want to save/print. Answer Yes to print, (or No to cancel the action). If Yes, a Printer selection window will appear. Select the printer and click OK.
Click Capture. Depending on the type of capture you chose, the following will happen:
