This functionality allows you to easily select sales order lines or pick list lines when you are manually creating outbound shipments. The lines are assigned to the shipment through the Work with outbound shipments routine. See Add lines through order assignment for detailed information.
To use the functionality, the shipment header must be defined with a shipment type specified for Order assignment. Should all the shipment type specifications be defined, then they will handle the complete outbound shipment process.
The Order assignment functionality determines the delivery sequence (a number that will correctly position a stop along the route) for the shipment addresses. The delivery sequence will be assigned to the addresses in the order that the sales order numbers or pick list numbers are entered in the routine.
The orders that are assigned to a shipment are stored in Work with outbound shipments, in the Assigned orders file which contains shipment number, shipment address, order number and pick list number. You can reach the file to view details for a whole outbound shipment as well as for a specific shipment address.
