The Forward Maintenance program is a mass update scheduler that allows you to carry out changes to your Item or Business Partner file. This gives you the ability to select a block of customers or products based on one set of criteria and change one, or more, of their attributes globally. You can also decide if you wish to apply these changes immediately or at a future date and time.
An example of when you would use this routine is when the delivery information for a series of customers needs to be updated. You need to change their MOT (Manner of transport) and TOD (Terms of delivery) information.
The most efficient way of updating your customer records (as opposed to manually changing them one at a time) would be to use this routine to select all of the customer records that need to be updated and have the system automatically change their MOT and TOD information.
In essence this program allows you to quickly:
- Identify records that need to be updated.
- Define the information that needs to be added or removed from these records.
- Enter a search criteria that would allow the system to correctly select all of these records.
- Update the changes immediately or at a scheduled time and date.
Prerequisites
The following must be set up by your system administrator.
- Run pre-load of tables for GEN and DIS applications.
- All the templates that will be used to define the selection criteria used in the updates must be activated in the Template control table by setting the Fwd maint active parameter to YES.
