On this panel you enter depreciation information for the asset and the depreciation types which have been defined for the asset, one at a time. It is necessary that this information is completed for all assets in the Asset file. Depending on the option and default setup you have chosen, some fields may already be completed. Some may also be protected, i.e. the cursor will by-pass them when you work your way through the fields.
Note: The default values defined for the template overrides the default values that would otherwise have been retrieved from the tables.
- Depreciation type
- This is the depreciation type that you are defining.
- Depreciation rule
- The default depreciation rule is retrieved from Work with asset types and groups, but may be changed to another rule from Work with depreciation rules.
- Depreciation perc
- The default depreciation percentage is retrieved from Work with asset types and groups. Whether or not a percentage should be entered is defined by the depreciation rule.
- Depreciation curve
- The default depreciation curve is retrieved from Work with asset types and groups. Whether or not a curve should be entered is defined by the depreciation rule.
- Alternative rule
- If the depreciation type allows an alternative rule, this field will be displayed. The alternative rule is only for comparison, and will not create any transactions. The depreciations according to the alternative rule can be printed for analysis on the Alternative depreciation comparison list. The alternative rules are set up per asset type and group in Work with asset types and groups, and can be specified further per asset here in the Asset file.
Note: In order for the Alternative depreciation function to work correctly, specific rules must be used. These rules must have the same parameters as, for example, the ‘DEGR’ rule, but should use the &ADARA/ variable instead of &ADRAT/ and &ADACU/ instead of &ADCUR/ (see Work with variable parameters). The concerned assets will be updated with these rules when an alternative rule is entered on this panel.
- Alternative perc
- Enter the percentage for the Alternative depreciation rule, if based upon a percentage.
- Alternative curve
- Enter the percentage for the Alternative depreciation rule, if based upon a curve.
- Non depreciable am
- The default value is calculated based on the percentage in Work with asset types and groups. If the depreciable amount is less than the acquisition amount, e.g. for luxury cars, enter the difference in system currency. The depreciations will be based on acquisition value less non depreciable amount.
- Fst dep per century
- The system will propose the current period (of this century) as the first depreciation period of the asset. The value can be changed.
Note: You can only enter the current or past century as a value.
- Fst dep date century
- The system will propose the current date (of this century) as the first depreciation start date of the asset. The value can be changed. Note: You can only enter the current or past century as a value.
- First depr period
- For depreciations based on period, you must enter the first depreciation period for the asset and this depreciation type. The first period must be within the acquisition year or within the next year.
- First depr date
- For depreciation based on date, you must enter the first depreciation date.
- Last depr period
- The last depreciated period is automatically completed by the system as the depreciations are run. If entering already depreciated assets into the Asset file, e.g. when installing the system, you may enter a period in this field. You will then be able to update the initial balances for the asset in the start-up routine.
- Hold depreciation
- Only shown for internal depreciation types, i.e. those types which do not affect the asset balance accounts. Set to YES to hold depreciations. Note: Depreciation will be held until you change back to NO, and the depreciation amount left out will not be added in later periods when depreciations start again.
