Apart from using the manufacturing order routine to create manufacturing orders, they can also be created from the following:
- Block orders
- Sales order entry if the item class of the item = 2 (non-stock item, standard), 3 (configuration item from DC1 Product Configurator) or 4 (Special)
- DC1 Project Management (Project order elements)
- MRP (Material requirement planning)
- Pull planning
As you work your way through the different stages in the manufacturing order cycle, the system will automatically assign status codes to the manufacturing order. See About manufacturing order creation/maintenance using the manufacturing order entry routine for a description of the status codes assigned.
Block orders
Instead of creating separate manufacturing orders each time an item is to be produced, you can create a block order in which you decide whether the item is to be produced each day, week or month. According to the default values stated in the block order, manufacturing orders for the chosen item can:
- manually be created from a block order. (See Manually create a manufacturing order from a block order for instructions).
- automatically be created for a selected number of block orders simultaneously in the current period. (See Automatically create manufacturing orders from block orders for instructions).
- automatically be created for a selected number of block orders simultaneously in the upcoming period by submitting a batch job. (See Automatically create manufacturing orders from block orders by submitting a batch job for instructions).
Sales order entry
Manufacturing orders are created automatically from the Sales routine if the item class is 2 (Non-stock item, standard), 3 (Configuration item) or 4 (Special). (See About sales order entry for information about how to access the sales order entry routine).
Note: Manufacturing orders will not be created automatically for non-stock items if the item is available in stock. However, even if there is stock on hand, the user can create a manufacturing order manually using the BtB option on the Work with sales orders, Order lines panel. This option can also be used for stock items (item class 1).
When entering a sales order with item class 2 or 4 a prompt for creation of manufacturing orders will be displayed. Click OK on the Manufacturing order creation panel to create a manufacturing order. You will then access the Work with sales orders, Order lines panel.
If you enter a sales order for a configurable item (item class 3) you will access the Work with sales orders, Order lines panel directly after the configuration of the item.
You can view the manufacturing order from the Work with sales orders, Order lines panel using the following:
- Click the Additional information 2 option to access the Work with sales orders, Order line, additional information 2 panel. The M-order field displays the manufacturing order number.
- The letter M in the Con column denotes that a manufacturing order is connected to the sales order. The Con st column displays the status of the order that is connected to the sales order.
Maintenance of the manufacturing order that was created from the sales order is done from the manufacturing order routine. See Change a manufacturing order for instructions.
DC1 Project Management
Creation of manufacturing orders can be done from the Project Management routine in the following cases:
- The item that is connected to the element line must have acquisition type 2 (manufactured).
- A project structure (BOM/BOR) must exist for the item. If no project structure exists you will be asked to copy an item structure before the manufacturing order is created.
- The Struct handl field must be set to 1 (structure) or 2 (additional material) for the element line.
Note: Manufacturing orders can also be created for project lines that are linked to a sales order.
See Create manufacturing orders from a phase element for more information about the order creation process.
Manufacturing orders are created for phase elements on the Phase element maintenance panel. You can use the following on the Phase element maintenance panel:
- Click Struct to create a unique structure for the item. This should be done before you create the manufacturing order. (See About project structures for information). Note: If you do not create a unique structure for the item, you can copy a structure from Basic data during the creation of the manufacturing order.
- Click Create acq to create a manufacturing order for a specific element. A prompt for creation of manufacturing orders will be displayed. Click OK on the Project manufacturing order panel to create the manufacturing order. Note: A warning message will be displayed if no structure exists for the item. If so, click OK to access the Copy structure selection panel. Click OK to copy the item structure from Basic data.
You will access the Manufacturing order maintenance, Header panel after the creation of the manufacturing order. The Project field displays the project number, phase number and element line to which the manufacturing order is linked. See Change a manufacturing order for instructions about maintenance of manufacturing orders.
Click Back to return to panel Phase element maintenance. The Order link field displays the manufacturing order number and status. Click Maint acq if you want to access the Manufacturing order maintenance, Header panel.
MRP (Material Requirement Planning)
Manufacturing orders can be created from the MRP routine if the planning method is 2 (MRP). See Automatically release MRP order proposals using batch job and Manually release an MRP order proposal for detailed information about how to create manufacturing orders from MRP proposals.
Manufacturing orders are created for proposals on the MRP Manufacturing maintenance panel. You can use the following on this panel:
- Click Create order to create a manufacturing order for a proposal. A prompt for creation of manufacturing orders will be displayed. Click OK on the Manufacturing order creation panel to create the manufacturing order. The proposal for production of that item will be deleted when the manufacturing order is created.
- Click Release to mark proposals for which manufacturing orders should be created. The value of 1 in the Rel field denotes that the proposal is marked for manufacturing order creation. The actual creation of the manufacturing orders for the marked proposals is performed using the Release manufact orders – MRP (REL_MF.ORD) batch job.
- Click MRP pegging to view the created manufacturing order. You will access the MRP pegging enquiry panel where the manufacturing order number is displayed.
Information about the manufacturing orders that were created through the batch job is displayed both in a printout and in the MRP pegging enquiry.
Maintenance of the manufacturing orders that were created is done from the manufacturing order routine. See Change a manufacturing order for instructions.
Pull planning
Manufacturing orders can be created from the Pull planning routine if the planning method is 3 (Priority analysis), 4 (Shortage analysis, ROP) or 5 (Shortage analysis, min/med/max). See Release manufacturing orders during pull planning for detailed information about how to create manufacturing orders from pull planning proposals.
Manufacturing orders are created for proposals on the Work with shortage analysis, Manufacturing and Work with priority analysis, Manufacturing panels. You can use the following on these panels:
- Click Release (prompt) to create a manufacturing order for an item. A prompt for creation of manufacturing orders will be displayed. Click OK on the Manufacturing order creation panel to create the manufacturing order.
- Click Order release to create a manufacturing order for an item directly without confirming the creation on panel Manufacturing order creation.
You will access the Work with shortage analysis, Manufacturing panel or the Work with priority analysis, Manufacturing panel after the creation of the manufacturing order. The M-order field displays the order number of the created manufacturing order. Click Order maintenance if you want to access the Manufacturing order maintenance, Header panel. See Change a manufacturing order for instructions about maintenance of manufacturing orders.
