The following describes how to add the parameters to those event types that have already had their basic properties configured. See Configure the basic properties of a new event type. The scenario is one of an event being created to inform users of a new sales order being set to a status that is ready for processing.
Parameters are used to “search” for occurrences in DC1 and to extract information that fits the criteria stipulated in the properties of each parameter. Since each event may contain many parameters, these are listed and then executed in the order you define.
In addition to this, parameters can also contain filters and limitations. See Create parameter limits and Create parameter filters.
- Select the Work with event types menu item.
- On the main panel, select the applicable event type and click Parameters.
- You access Work with parameters. Click Add to create a new parameter.
- On the detail panel, complete the following fields:
- Sequence
- Enter the sequence in which you want the parameters to be executed.
- Parameter
- Enter a name to identify the parameter you are creating. Tip: By entering the name of a valid field type here, you can then click the prompt and retrieve the pre-determined values from the Field reference file for this field type.
- Description
- Enter a description of the new parameter.
- Used to find receiv
- NO is defaulted. However, if you want this parameter to be used to find receivers (those who will be the recipients of the message created by this event) you must add this parameter to the details. See Assign receivers to an event.
- Used for escalation
- NO is defaulted. Change it to YES if you want this parameter to be used for the purposes of escalating or promoting a record.
- Used for limitation
- Indicates if limitations have been created for one or more of the parameters used for this event type. Limitations are used to narrow down the “search” for events. See Create parameter limits.
- If a limitation has been added, which is done later in the process, then this field is set to YES indicating that this parameter is to be used as a limitation.
- Used for filters
- Indicates if filters have been created for one or more of the parameters used for this event type. Filters are used to narrow down the “search” for events. See Create parameter filters.
- If a filter has been added to this parameter, which is done later in the process, then the value is set to YES indicating that this parameter is to be used as a filter.
- Used in header text
- Indicate if this parameter is to be used as text in the message header sent to the receiver. Here, set to YES. In Configure the basic properties of a new event type you will note that Alert header text was completed with the Sales order and &P01 is ready for confirmation, with &P01 referring to a parameter value. In keeping with that, the value in this parameter will now be substituted in place of &P01. This is to say that the sales order number that this event retrieves will be presented in the header text of the message created.
- Mandatory/optional
- Enter either M (Mandatory) or O (Optional) to indicate whether this is a mandatory parameter for this event or not.
- Type
- Enter a panel value code to inform the system of the format of the information that is to be searched and presented. The field can be changed for existing records.
Code Description A Alpha N Numeric D Date T Text - Here, you are configuring the system to search for sales order numbers – numeric value. Enter N.
- Number of digits
- Enter the number of digits to indicate the length this parameter should have when processed in a database. Here, you are configuring the system to search for a sales order number. Enter 12 to include 12 spaces for an order number.
Note: When setting up a parameter for a Text type (i.e. the Type field is set to T), the database digits must be 25.
- Number of digits
- Enter the number of digits to indicate the length this parameter should have when displayed on panels. Here, you are configuring the system to search for a sales order number. Enter 12 to display 12 spaces for an order number.
Note: When setting up a parameter for a Text type (i.e. the Type field is set to T), the Panel digits must be 72.
