Clients are used as a means through which to carry a message to receivers. AMT comes with several of these preloaded, but others may be added to suit your requirements.
The following describes how to set up the rudimentary information that is required in order for messages to be sent via e-mail.
Others that may be used include the message system that forms part of the iSeries, Short Message Service (SMS; via mobile phones), telephone and fax.
Caution: In addition to the steps outlined herein, it will be necessary for you to speak with your system and network administrators. DNS addresses, IP addresses and other details will be required from them, as well as the varying steps that are necessary in order for you to be able to configure your iSeries with an SMTP gateway.
- Select the Work with client types menu item.
- On the main panel, click Add to create a new client type.
- On the Work with client types detail panel, complete the following fields:
- Client type
- Enter the name of the new client type that you are creating.
- Description
- Enter a description of the new client type.
- Update phone file
- Indicate if the system should automatically update a business partner contact’s communication details for this client type, (the Phone numbers panel in the Business partner file), if they are changed.
- Parameter used
- Indicate if the system requires parameters in order to send the created message or the information. For example, to send a message to an e-mail address, parameters would be needed to verify that the user has been activated for this client type, and that a valid e-mail address is entered.
- Used by AMT
- Enter YES to indicate that this client type is to be used by AMT for sending and receiving alert messages.
- Type
- One of the following values can be entered in this field to determine the type of client:
- Type 1 refers to internal clients such as the DC1 UI Client or the Analyser client.
- Type 2 refers to external clients such as e-mail, fax or GSM (SMS).
- Interface program
- Messages that are created for external client types (type 2) require an interface program to create and compose the information contained in these. The program used for this purpose is defined in this field. These programs come preloaded with AMT and you should contact your systems administrator should you need to create a new one. The preload includes:
- EDSR920 Interface program for the DC1 UI Client.
- EDSR921 Interface program for MAIL.
- EDSR922 Interface program for SMS.
- Immediate send
- For AMT messages, this field must be set to YES, as the system does not allow for delayed sending.
- Action validity
- By clicking the prompt a list of the options available for this field will be presented. Enter a value to indicate to the system what type of action/routine this client is valid for.
- You return to the main Work with client types panel. Select the client type you created and click Parameters to configure these.
- You access Work with client type parameters. Click Add to configure a new parameter.
- On the detail panel, complete the following fields:
- Parameter number
- Enter a sequence number to indicate the order in which this parameter should be executed.
- Description
- Enter a description of the new parameter.
- Scan value
- Enter the actual value that the system will look for when determining how this client type is to be used in sending a message or information.
- For example, if you enter *MAIL=, then the system will look at the string of data that is created for an event, and once this scan value is located, it will know that the details that follow thereafter constitutes the receiver’s e-mail address.
- Tip: The value in place for SMS (Short message service, via GSM mobile/cellular telephone networks) is *SMSN=. The GSM numbers that follow need to be in the international format. For a mobile in the UK, for instance, this would appear as +4417xxxxxxxxx
Click OK.
Click OK and exit the routine.
