If account movements occur the calculations for depreciation will affect, e.g. a cost centre. The account movements routine is thus in several ways connected with the depreciation routine. For more information about the connection, see About working with depreciations.
The Asset Management system handles three types of account movements:
- Acquisition account movements
- Depreciation account movements
- Depreciation cost account movements
Account movements occur when you change the physical location of an asset. If this results in a cost centre change as well, an account movement takes place. A change in the underlying accounting rules will also result in an account movement. These movements are handled automatically the next time you run the calculation for depreciation. Balances for the acquisition value and accumulated depreciation are moved to the new cost centre, and the newly calculated depreciation affects the new cost centre.
A balance account check is also performed in combination with asset entry and acquisition. You need only a preliminary acquisition account in Accounts Payable. Asset Management transfers the acquisition amount to the correct and final acquisition account.
There are two ways to update account movements:
- You can calculate depreciation for assets showing an account movement.
- You can run the Work with account movement routine. This gives you the ability to run account movements separately.
If you do not want the account movement to take place, you can change the accounting rules which change the balance back to the original account before you run the depreciation.
The stand-alone account movements function differs from accounts movement handling in the depreciation function regarding the following:
- Depreciation cost movements are not taken into account.
- Only movements for external depreciation types are handled.
- Acquisition movements can be selected separately.
