The following describes the process of building the PA report, thereby defining all the parameters for the report you want to eventually create.
When all the preparatory work is complete (setting up your prerequisites which include the Balance components and Item / Customer profitability codes), you can start to build the report.
The parameters for building the report you want are contained in six pages (or containers) and include:
- Definition: Basic information for the report
- Calculation: Although this is optional (since you can create a report on a simple level, just showing, e.g., net sales value) the entire tool is about being able to track your costs and identify your most profitable whatever. By defining a calculation you can view the information in the report on a more detailed level – breaking down the information.
- Sequence: The keys you want to include in the report and the sorting sequence of these keys.
- Selections: The selection value(s) for the keys and period range for the selection.
- Columns: The column headings for your report and the column that is going to be the Net contribution column (if you want to calculate and view Profitability values). The values for the Net contribution column will be used to calculate the Profitability values.
- Profitability: Although this is optional, (and need only be defined if you want to create a report displaying Profitability values (i.e. Net contribution, Net contribution % and a ranking code, per Item and/or Customer), the whole purpose of the Profitability Analysis tool is being able to track your most profitable Items/Customers. Once the profitability values have been identified, you can back update this information in DC1’s Item and Customer files, enabling you to view these values at any time, (via the Item and Customer Browsers in DC1 Analyser), without having to run a report.
Although you can define the information on the different pages in the order that you want, the procedure is described in the order listed above. See the Related topics.
