These instructions describe how to view the calculation of safety stock for a warehouse in a distribution structure. The calculation method used is a generalized method for calculating SST. The basic idea is to have a flexible way of determining where the safety stock for a demanding warehouse will be stored. This can either be on the supplying warehouse, demanding warehouse, or shared between the supplying and demanding warehouse.
This enables several demanding warehouses to share the risk of safety stock which will be stored at one supplying warehouse. This reduces the total safety stock keeping the same service level.
Note: The formula does not consider planning time between warehouses, rather it works with short lead times.
- Select the Work with supply plans (SP) menu item.
- On the initial panel, select the applicable supply plan and click Details.
- You access Work with supply plan, Items listing those items for which Supply plan is set to YES in the Item file. Select the applicable item/warehouse combination and click Details.
- You access Work with supply plan, Period details. Select the period for which you want to display how the safety stock has been calculated and click SST calculation.
- You access Work with supply plan, SST calculation displaying how the safety stock has been calculated for the DRP items for the selected period. See Formula for safety stock calculation in a supply plan.
