The system can automatically calculate sales commissions based on one, or a combination, of the following parameters:

  • Customer
  • Customer commission group
  • Customer group
  • Item
  • Item commission group
  • Item group

Sales commission information is automatically retrieved and calculated when sales order lines are entered.

What you can control is the following:

  • the method used to calculate sales commissions
  • when (during the sales order cycle) the sales commissions are to be calculated
  • the amounts that are calculated.

Calculation methods

The commission method to use when calculating the commission is defined in the Salesman commission table. There are four different methods (commission base amount codes) available, and control not only how the commission is calculated but also when it is calculated:

Note: Commissions are calculated as a percentage of the amount.

Commission base amount code Commission based on When commission is calculated
1 Net sales price * quantity Calculated when the order line is entered
2 Net sales price * dispatched quantity Calculated when the pick list is confirmed

if pick lists are not printed then it will be calculated when the invoice is printed.

3 Invoiced amount Calculated when the invoice is printed.
4 Paid amount Not calculated. The invoiced amount is used as a default value but it can be changed.

Sales persons

Commissions can be automatically calculated for three different types of sales personnel:

  • Salesman
  • Sales manager
  • Sales area manager

Set up

File To do
Sales order types table Set the Commissions field to YES for the applicable sales order types to allow sales commissions to be automatically generated or manually added for sales orders that are connected to this sales order type.
Signature table Identify all sales persons and sales managers that are eligible for receiving commissions by completing the following fields:

    Sales person
    Must be set to YES.
    Sales manager
    Employee ID of the salesman’s manager can be entered. This salesman/sales manager hierarchy is not mandatory.
Area table Identify all the sales area managers that are eligible for receiving commissions by completing the following field:

    Sales area manager
    Employee ID of the area manager can be entered. Sales area managers are responsible for the region the customer is located in. Note: Sales area managers will only receive a commission for sales that were made in their region if a record, describing the type of commission that they are eligible for, is made in the Salesman commission table.
