Combine a selection using the nickname class

In the Work with inventory control codes routine, you assign different calculation methods according to different segments of the stock. The system provides six classes that you can choose from for segmentation purposes. Each class is totally independent and cannot be combined with another class. In order to combine classes and create a complex segmentation, you must use the fast update function together with a nickname class.

  1. Follow the instructions in About working with inventory control codes to create an inventory control code record in the applicable inventory control code table. This record should contain the desired method and parameters for the segment you want to create. Use the nickname class. Here, the name for the key value is “SEGMENT A”, as an example.
  2. Then, follow the instructions in Update inventory fields with Fast update I and choose the item/warehouse combinations you want to be connected to “SEGMENT A” by completing the desired selection fields.
  3. Assign the selection to the control code class *NCKNAM and the key value “SEGMENT A” and click OK. You have now combined two classes using the nickname class. Exit the routine.
