In lead time analysis/update, the system takes the lead time value per item, per line from the Purchase statistics file and calculates the average lead time for each item/warehouse combination, and for each item, in the selection. What is actually measured is the time that elapses between the date the order line is printed/EDI created and the reception date. This is really the lead time plus transportation time, and is referred to as the “planning time” on the report.
Note: This routine also allows you to interactively work with the lead time analysis before the actual update to the system is performed. This is described in Work with a lead time analysis.
- Select the Print lead time analysis/updates menu item.
- You access Lead time list printout/update. Use the selection fields to narrow down the number of selected items. Complete the following fields:
- Update item file
- Indicate if the Lead time field should be updated in the Item/Supplier information file for all selected items.
- Update in work file
- Set to NO.
- Details
- Indicate if the report should contain detail level information. The detail level includes one line per item/warehouse level. If NO, a summary level report will be printed containing only one line per item.
- Lead time dev +/-
- This field allows you to exclude abnormal lead times. Enter the accepted deviation in working days between the calculated real lead times and the actual lead times in the Item/Supplier information file. For example, if you enter 3, this means that order lines that have a real lead time greater than 3 days will not be calculated. Therefore, the higher the value the more order lines included in the lead time analysis. If you leave this field blank, all order lines will be included.
- Date intervals
- Enter the number of days in the first input field and then click OK to recalculate the date intervals. Alternatively, manually change the date fields (1-6). This allows you to decide the length of the periods backward in time. The dates are used as selection on reception dates in the Purchase statistics file.
Click OK. The system and calculates the average lead time for each selected item/warehouse combination and updates the Item/Supplier information file. For each item, the following is printed:
- The lowest, highest and average value of the planning time along with the number of lines found for each item/warehouse combination.
- The old lead time from the Item/Supplier information file.
- The new lead time. This is calculated from the average planning time and the supplier transportation time. Note: The new lead time value is always displayed in the report. However, this field is only updated in the Item/Supplier information file if Update item file is set to YES.
Exit the routine.
