Connect a tool to a bill of routing

Before the Tools and fixtures function can be used in the system you must connect the tool to a bill of routing. Assuming the relevant item structures exist, you have the following two options when connecting the tool to a bill of routing. You can:

  • Connect main tools to an existing operation
    You can connect one or two tools to the operation. This will give you the added flexibility of searching for the manufacturing orders where the tools are being used. You do this via the Plan manufacturing order details menu item.
  • Connect additional tools to an existing operation
    You can connect an unlimited number of additional tools to the operation. These cannot, however, be tracked in the manufacturing order detail planning routine.

The following will briefly outline how to do both. For more information about item structures, see About setting up item structures for produced items.

Connect main tools to an existing operation

The following describes how to connect main tools to an operation. You can choose to add one or two main tools to the operation.

  1. Select the Work with structures menu item.
  2. On the initial panel, select the item to which you want to connect tools and click Change oper.
  3. You access Structure maintenance, Bill of routing, Op times in minutes (decimal). Select the applicable operation and click Change.
  4. You access the detail panel for the chosen operation. Complete the following field:
    5. Tool 1 – 2
    Enter up to two tools in these fields.

    Click OK and exit the routine.

    Tip: You can search for all manufacturing orders where these tools are used in the Manufacturing order detail planning routine. See About detail planning for manufacturing order operations.

Connect additional tools to an existing operation

The following describes how to connect additional tools to an operation. You can add an unlimited number of additional tools. These tools are only displayed in printouts and cannot be tracked in the manufacturing order detail planning routine.

  1. Select the Work with structures menu item.
  2. On the initial panel, select the item to which you want to connect tools and click Change oper.
  3. You access Structure maintenance, Bill of routing, Op times in minutes (decimal). Select the applicable operation and click Tool.
  4. You access Item tool/fixture maintenance for the chosen operation, listing the main tools that have been defined for the operation. Click Add to add an additional tool to the chosen operation.
  5. On the detail panel, select the additional tool (in the Tool field) and click OK to add the selected tool to the operation. Return to the previous panel.
  6. On the initial Item tool/fixture maintenance panel you can delete the additional tools that should no longer be connected to the operation.

    7. Note: You cannot delete the main tools from this panel. To delete main tools from an operation you need to access the Structure maintenance, Bill of routing, Op time in minutes (decimal) panel.

    Exit the routine.
