DC1 Radio Frequency Handling transfers the batches from a host computer to a mobile terminal using digital radio signals at a particular frequency, thus bypassing printed instructions. The R/F terminal functions in the same manner as an iSeries terminal, except that the display size may vary depending on the device. You set a default panel size when allocating a resource to the handler.
As transactions are completed on the R/F terminal, they are immediately visible on the iSeries. For example, when a picking instruction is confirmed the item is automatically moved to the resource and can be viewed in the Warehouse location enquiry.
Selecting activities
Select R/F activity is the initial R/F batch processing panel. From this panel the warehouse operator (allowed user ID) can see all available activities. All necessary tasks needed for an R/F operator can be accessed from this program. You can select an R/F activity, and then all open R/F batches for that activity will be displayed and can be selected for process.
Note: Through DC1 Job Control, you can set the program as your initial start program.
According to the setup, available activities are displayed for the R/F user. Therefore, different activity setups exist for different users, e.g., the warehouse responsible has all activities whereas pick operators only have picking, replenishment and location movements, etc.
Selecting batches
After selecting activity you will see the batches that have been allocated to your handler or resource group. These batches are marked with an asterisk (*). The remaining R/F batches, without an *, have not been assigned to any handler and can be selected by anyone.
Note: Batches that are assigned to a resource group are only displayed if the allocated resource is assigned to the same resource group.
The batches are displayed in order of priority, if a priority was entered during the batch creation. Select one of the batches for processing.
Note: You cannot select a batch unless the resource that is assigned to the batch is the same as the one you have allocated. If this is not the case, then you will have to make a new resource allocation. However, if no resource is assigned to the batch it can be processed with any resource. If the batch is connected to a resource group, then you may use any resource from that group in the batch processing. See About working with resource allocation for details.
Depending on the type of batch you select you may be instructed to move stock or pallets from one location to another, to count stock or to remove empty pallets. You may also be instructed to pick and pack a shipment. For each step in the process you enter or scan the location and item. The batch is automatically closed when the instructions have been completed.
Instruction sequence
The order in which the batches are displayed for picking and putting stock, or moving from one location to another, depends on the pick/put type that is defined for the batch.
Scanning information
During the R/F batch processing, necessary information is either scanned with an R/F terminal or entered via the keyboard, or it is defaulted. The information that can be scanned is zone/location, quantity, item, pallet number, batch number, serial number and pack number. This is defined per warehouse in Work with warehouses, on the Radio Frequency information panel.
Note: If no quantity is entered, then the system assumes that the quantity is 1. To avoid mistakes, each stock unit or box should be scanned/entered.
EAN code
If Scan EAN code in Work with warehouses is set to YES, then the system will use the EAN number to determine the item code. The EAN is specified for each item/unit of measure combination, and is set up in EAN number in the Item file, on the Units panel. The EAN code is connected to a conversion factor that makes the reporting easier. For example, if you have a box consisting of 24 items, then you can scan the EAN code and enter 1 as quantity and it will be registered as 24 items.
